The implementation of an EU directive has prompted the legislature to restructure fundamentally the criminal offense of money laundering in section 261 of the German Criminal Code (StGB) and to massively expand its scope of application. Now, all predicate offenses are a suitable starting point for criminal liability for money laundering. Companies in particular should review their risk management and adapt their compliance rules where necessary. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Nikolaos Gazeas has written an essay on the new money laundering criminal law in the current issue (issue 15 of April 8, 2021) of the renowned German law journal &#8220;Neue Juristische Wochenschrift&#8221; (NJW) (Gazeas, Das neue Geldw\u00e4sche-Strafrecht: Weitreichende Folgen f\u00fcr die Praxis, NJW 2021, 1041-1046).<\/p>\n<p>The NJW is one of the most important journals for legal theory and practice in Germany. It has been published by C.H.
